Practical guide: weekend in Lyon with a 0-3 year old baby
Travelling with a baby means visiting a city in a different way. You slow down, look for shady benches, parks to take a break, cafés to put the stroller down without stress. The good news is that Lyon is a particularly pleasant city to visit with a toddler. Distances are reasonable, riverbanks are flat and many neighborhoods are easy to explore with a stroller.
Stroll through the Parc de la Tête d’Or
It’s the place to be for young parents. This large park in the heart of the city is ideal for strollers.
Why parents love it:
- large, flat, shaded walkways
- numerous benches for breast-feeding or bottle-feeding
- free zoo for a curious break
- very quiet rose garden for stroller naps
Mornings are particularly pleasant when the park is still quiet.

A gentle stroll along the banks of the Rhône
The landscaped quays are perfect for walking with a stroller. The paths are wide, flat and safe, making it easy to stroll along and enjoy the river. Just watch out for the large number of bicycles and joggers. It’s the perfect place for a digestive stroll after lunch. You can even take advantage of baby’s nap to have a drink on a barge!
Fishwatching at theAquarium de Lyon
Toddlers are often fascinated by lights and movement. The aquarium is a perfect activity for rainy or hot days.
We discover :
- colorful tropical fish
- hypnotic jellyfish
- sharks in a large tunnel
The advantage with a baby: the visit is short (around 1 hour) and the aisles are wide enough to allow easy movement with a stroller.

The most pleasant areas of the city with a baby:
The historic center between the Rhône and Saône rivers. Many pedestrian streets, cafés and boutiques. Perfect for a leisurely stroll and a snack.
- Old Lyon
Very pretty, but with cobblestones. Better to use a baby carrier to explore the traboules and narrow streets.
- Presqu’île
The historic center between the Rhône and Saône rivers. Many pedestrian streets, cafés and boutiques. Perfect for a leisurely stroll and a snack.
- Croix-Rousse
Village atmosphere with markets, cafés and parks. Very pleasant in the morning.
The good news is that Lyon’s transport network is quite accessible with a stroller, especially the metro and tramway.
