Testimonial Couple
Innkeeper :
Hi Julien, what made you choose Lyon for this weekend for two?
Julien:
Hello ! So, to be honest, it was a bit of a mix between a desire for a change of scenery and a little wink for our dating anniversary. My girlfriend loves cities where there’s both life and old-world charm, and I wanted a weekend where we could walk, party, eat well, and above all… enjoy ourselves. Lyon being the little Paris, it was just what we needed.
Innkeeper :
And why did you choose the Globe & Cecil for your getaway?
Julien:
What attracted us was the “house in the center of town” aspect. We wanted to avoid impersonal hotels where everything is formatted. Here, you immediately feel that there’s a personality, a “boutique hotel” style.
What’s more, we were able to do everything on foot, from the quays to the peninsula, and return to the hotel after our strolls without having to look for a car or the metro. It’s really convenient for a couple’s weekend.
Innkeeper :
Do you have any surprises or special touches in store for this holiday?
Julien:
Yes, I had organized a few little touches for my girlfriend, like a bottle of champagne in the room on arrival and fresh flowers. The staff were lovely, making sure everything was discreet and well presented. It makes all the difference for a romantic weekend: these little touches make the experience so much more personal.
We also took advantage of the hotel bar one evening to have a quiet aperitif before going out for dinner. We would have loved to have tried the restaurant, but it was closed at weekends.
Innkeeper :
Let’s talk about your walks. What moments in the city have particularly impressed you?
Julien:
I’d say the apero in the grass by the water on the quays of the Rhône was crazy… it’s really romantic. With the sunset light on the facades!
Afterwards, we strolled through Vieux Lyon, hand in hand on the way to our restaurant. The cobbled streets and traboules created a magical atmosphere, almost as if we’d been transported to another century.
Innkeeper :
And Lyon’s gastronomy? Myth or reality?
Julien:
Who can say they don’t enjoy eating in this city, frankly? There are restaurants every 3 meters, and each one looks more delicious than the next… We tried out a small traditional bouchon to discover Lyonnais cuisine (not our favorite, but glad we did), then one evening we opted for a more intimate, gourmet table. The food was delicious and the service very attentive.
We also enjoyed a light lunch on a sunny terrace, just the two of us, with a glass of Côte du Rhône wine.
Innkeeper :
Did you do activities or discover places you hadn’t planned?
Julien:
Yes, we were surprised by a little covered passageway with artisanal stores in the Hôtel Dieu, a bit by chance. We also took a little boat trip on the Saône for a romantic touch, and it was very calm, with just the sun on the water. A truly suspended moment (I was sure I’d make her fall in love aha).
Innkeeper :
If you had to recommend one romantic activity in Lyon, what would it be?
Julien:
The boat tour was just great! I was afraid it was going to be a “tourist trap”, but the city is magnificent seen from this angle, and I’m not sorry I was surprised!
Innkeeper :
And if you had to sum up your Globe & Cecil experience in a few words?
Julien:
Warm, intimate and perfectly located. We loved the hotel’s personality and the little touches that make all the difference for a couple on a weekend getaway. The staff are really lovely! We’ll be back here if we come back to Lyon.
