3 places to enjoy a romantic sunset in Lyon
By Mario, Business Development Manager at Globe & Cecil
Over time, I’ve got into the habit of recommending a few places to our customers who are looking for a pretty sunset in Lyon. The same goes for my friends who ask me, “Where do you go for a nice moment for two?”
Here are my three favorite places to watch a sunset. They may not be secrets… but they work every time.
The banks of the Rhône, simply in the grass
When the weather’s fine, I often recommend going to the quays of the Rhône, on the lawn side. You can sit quietly on the grass, facing the water.
What I like about it is the atmosphere. It’s busy, there’s music, but it’s still peaceful. People chat, some improvise a little aperitif, others just watch the sky change color.
The sun slowly sinks behind the buildings, the light becomes warmer, and everything slows down a little. For a simple, no-fuss moment, it’s perfect. It’s also within easy reach of the city center, making it a spontaneous place to go at the end of the day.

Fourvière, the view that makes everyone agree
It’s a classic, but the view from the hilltop Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière remains for me one of the most beautiful sunsets in Lyon.
You can see the whole city: the rooftops, the two rivers, the Presqu’île… When the sun starts to go down, the light turns golden and Lyon takes on another dimension. Even if you’ve been up there several times before, the effect is always the same (especially when it comes to flirting…).
It’s the ideal place if you want something a little more special. I often recommend going a little before bedtime to take time to enjoy the view and watch the colors slowly evolve. And it gives you time to catch your breath if you’ve come up on foot.
L’Ermitage, for a drink at the end of the day
If you prefer a more relaxed setting, with a glass in hand, L’Ermitage is a great option.
You come for the atmosphere and the view. At the end of the day, the light is particularly beautiful, softer, almost enveloping. It’s a pleasant place to chat, catch up on old times and watch the sun slowly disappear over the horizon.
