4 ideas for romantic activities in Lyon
By Isabelle, Yield Manager at Aubergistes Lyonnais
Lyon may not be Venice, but it’s sure got the makings of a great evening out for two. In all the time I’ve lived here, I’ve come up with a few ideas that work every time. Romantic, simple and original.
Voyage des papilles (Lyon edition)
I often recommend Lyon Food Tour in Vieux Lyon. It’s a guided tour that combines short stories about the city with tastings of local specialties: cheeses, charcuterie, quenelles, wines, pralines, and of course a few sweet treats. The concept is simple and convivial: you go at your own pace through the cobbled streets, taste a little of everything, and above all share this moment with your partner, discovering the city in a different way. Tours last around 3 hours, and prices range from €55 to €65 per person, depending on the package. We strongly advise you to book in advance on their website, especially at weekends, as places sell out fast.
Psssst: if you’re staying at a hotel, there’s a little surprise on the price!

A remake of the movie ghost…
If you’re looking for something more creative to do together, I’d love to try a session at La Papoterie. It’s a new pottery and café address where you can paint ceramics together. It’s very convivial: you choose a mug, vase or bowl, give free rein to your ideas, and then they take care of the firing. A few weeks later, you come back to pick up your creation, and leave with a unique souvenir of Lyon. It really is an activity that creates memories, almost like a little project for two.
A boat trip (yes, in Lyon)
When the weather’s nice, there’s nothing like a boat trip on the Saône or Rhône rivers. There are several ways to rent a boat or enjoy an aperitif cruise. For example, some offers include a 1.5-hour cruise with an aperitif from around €30-40 per person, which is very pleasant in summer. We embark from quays close to the center, sail gently, and watch the bridges and facades go by at sunset. It’s one of my favorite ways to spend a stress-free moment for two. Ask Cap Confluent for more information.

A play… Romantic, isn’t it?
Finally, going to see a play at the Théâtre des Célestins is an excellent idea for a more cultural evening out. This Italian-style theater in the heart of Lyon has been in existence for over two centuries, and the atmosphere is truly special. Whether it’s a classic or a contemporary play, attending a performance together, in this place steeped in history, adds a touch of magic to the evening.
